day nine

just discovered these cigarette packs here in the house. it was on the dividers where mother’s philip morris packs are usually found. this was probably some gift. anyway, the name on the pack is vogue and is flavored as menthe, now i know the french word for mint. also some more french lines on the other side..

A travers les feuilles Mille rayons de soleil Fraicheur de la brise.. which supposedly means through the leaves Mille sunlight Fraicheur the breeze. must be those odd haikus or something.

anyway, what is interesting is the picture of bloody, stained teeth and gums with some japanese captions on it. also another picture on the other side of a cigarette stick that is curled while lit. i asked sheena to translate it and she doesn’t know what it means either, except for a inhale smoke part. sheena’s japanese lessons are really paying off, i see. so anyway, if you would want to discourage a smoker not to smoke, don’t put a picture of some diseased gum. they will probably end up brushing a lot more than quit smoking.. or use mouthwash.. or floss.. or go to a dentist. whatever.. anyway, i guess the disgusting picture would be effective but for me it looks like someone was chewing brownies and just smiled for the camera. and the other picture, i don’t know the caption so i don’t know why the cigarette stick was bent. nobody smokes bent cigarettes, they usually try to straighten it out like it was a weapon for battle.

well, these pictures were of course meant to discourage smoking. or at least warn them of the consequences. well goodluck on hoping that would work here in the philippines. a lot of people here have bad, black teeth even if they don’t smoke. they should put pictures of black lungs instead. but they’ll probably think it was just a picture of overcooked tocino.
