some fun (annoying) facts
- i was one of the first smokers from my batch in UPIS. i knew of a few other guys that i saw with my own eyes that smoked but they didn’t really knew i did also. there was a time that we had a film showing at the AS in UP diliman and i was so early i decided to smoke on the 3rd floor. yeah, i didn’t know that you cannot smoke inside AS and inside an empty classroom at that. one of my friends who also arrived early so me and thought i was cool, i guess that made me feel good. sheesh
- my father who was a notoriously heavy/chain smoker in his 20s to 30s quit smoking at the age of 45. and when he did quit, he really quit. he never touched another stick after that. he smoked winston lights which was still colored red at that time and my mother used to buy him reams of those from the market every saturday. he even went into those filter things which you attach to the end of the sticks to remove that nicotine tar. yuck. anyway when he stopped he had to cure his oral fixation with eating cans of fox’s candies. cans! not kidding. he destroyed all his molars in the process.
- my mother still smokes philip morris, those long menthol things. its what my tita fe smokes too. its a sister thing i guess
- my sister unofficially smokes and unofficially has quit also. she’s the hypocrite, she used to slam our doors if she even had a whiff of yosi usok. imagine how flabbergasted i was when she came home one night smelling like champion cigarettes. now that is kidding, but she did smell. i don’t have a big nose for no reason sister
- i have smoked marlboro lights, marlboro reds, marlboro menthol, winston lights, winston reds, lucky strike lights, gudam garang, west ice, philip morris (yes i did, read below), dunhill and that green apple flavored thing you can buy in mini-stop.
- there was one time when me and my close friend tatang were desperately trying to find yosi. we were at the college of music and not one fuckin vendor was selling marlboro or winston. we ended up buying philip morris and we held the stick near the middle so that our friends won’t recognize the unusually long sticks. pathetic.
- UP diliman is a smoking-free campus daw. yeah people still smoke, the vendors don’t sell anymore though. sometimes there are some vendors which sell it to you as if it were drugs but i’ve only been able to find them around campus events. i’m glad this wasn’t implemented back then when i was there
- the slogan or title Y: The Last Cigarette is inspired by one of my favorite comic book series Y: The Last Man by brian k. vaughan and pia guerra. its not related to smoking though.
- you can send me an email: dodi.liongson@gmail.com if you got anything to say good or bad. i don’t care. or just buzz me at my YM id, for friends only though.
